Hey I'm seriously considering getting a discovery between 1997 and 2001. Would you recommend them, obviously you have one but i just want to know if there are things on it that have really frustrated you, and if you could give me any tips on what to look out for that would be great thanks Matt

The Disco 1 is a brilliant truck in my opinion. It shares alot of the core mechanical and structural parts as the tried and true land rover defender and is without the alot of the accident prone electronics that show up in the later land rovers. I got lucky and found one with a five speed manual with 109,000 miles this summer. so far i've put about 4k miles on it and its running fine. however, any car/ truck like this is gonna need maintenance. I've replaced some sensors and a fuel pump soon after I got it but its been running flawlessly since then. all in all, I love mine and recommend it if you can find one thats in good shape and affordable

Sounds familiar... have a 2008 LR3 and a 2012 LR4 back home. The 08 has about 101k miles on it and has had it's fair share of problems. The LR4 is still too new to break all apart. :thumby:

Nice thanks for the advice thats good to hear because i made a deal with a guy in charlottesville to buy his 1999 Disco I for $4000. Its pretty sweet has 132xxx miles and drives very well. the reason i was interested in it is because alot of stuff was already done to it. I just hope it doesn't have any lurking gremlins. If not i will be wheeling it very soon!!!! I am jealous yours is a manual, thats awesome
