Where's the closest steel supplier?

Post by VerticalTRX »

I'm needing to purchase about 4' of 1.5" .250" wall DOM and was thinking about trying that place that people talk about in Roanoke or Salem. Any details on where this is or what its called would be great. Or, if anyone might have a short section of that dimension I'd be interested in purchasing it. I would order it online, but I need it by Friday.

Thanks,
Matt

Steel Services in Roanoke. The last time I was there they had a minimum purchase requirement of $100. I can try to dig up the number when I get home if you can't find it on your own.

Matt, it's really too bad you didn't post this up last week. I've got a nice 4' chunk of that sitting in my shop with no immediate plans for it. But I won't be back up there for at least another week and a half.

Let me know if your time frame changes.

Actually I might take you up on that. I'll probably send out a message on listserve to see if anyone has any locally first, but if not I'll wait for that that you have.

I called Steel suppliers in Roanoke and they don't have any, so looks like I'm stuck waiting anyways.

I tried Fastenal in Wytheville and they could only get HREW and pipe, no DOM. They also said any tube that had to be ordered would take 1-2 weeks. IDK, maybe they just didn't feel like helping me.

metalsdepot.com ships from tennesee or kentucky. usually gets here in two days. not the cheapest, but not the most expensive, either.

4ft of 1.5" .250 wall DOM was about $56 minus shipping.

Matt, before you bank on my having what you need. Exactly how much do you have to have? If I only had a 3' chunk would that work? or you need 4'? I know the piece I have is at least 3', but not sure if it's quite 4'. Just don't want to cause you unneccesary aggravation.

Also, www.onlinemetals.com has what you need. A 4' chunk is 39.12 + shipping.

Quick estimate on UPS.com gives an estimated shipping of around $18.

So you'd be looking at about $57 shipped.

Just an FYI

Thanks for the links, I guess I'm ok waiting to get it without ordering online. I've been running on a bent tie-rod/drag link since uwharrie, so whats a couple more weeks gonna hurt.

Ary, the minimum length that I could use would be 3'2", PM me with how much you want for it.

no but I'm cheap and broke right now, lol. Also, some things have come up so I probably won't be able to get the job done for another week or two anyways. I did book mark both for future reference however.
