need help, rear axle seal

Post by turnbull »

I need someone who is knowledgeable on Jeep axles because my D44 is leaking on both sides. I had this issue before a year ago, took it to a mechanic, and they supposedly fixed it. Now I don't know how long after that it started leaking again, but I just noticed it today. I most likely need the axle seal/bearings replaced on both sides, but unfortunately I do not have the expertise nor the tools necessary to replace them.

If anyone is willing to help me, I will gladly pay you. I figure for one, someone here probably knows a lot more about Jeep axles than the mechanic, and for two, we'd be helping each other out. Also, I am willing to help out, especially since the more I know about my vehicle, the better. Please respond if you can help.

I did the seals on Tom's D44 with him not too long ago, maybe 2.5 years? Once I'm back in town I'd be happy to help one evening/weekend. If you can't wait til then (early to mid january) Alec might be in town and have time to help out, though I know he has work to do on the bronco before Rausch.

Ok I appreciate it. I am not going to be back in Blacksburg until like the 18th, so there is no rush. Should I order the parts now or do you think that Advance will have the parts in stock when I need them? Also about how much should I expect to be paying you? Just need to make sure it is in my budget.

It was about 2.5 years ago and my rear axle hasn't leaked since. I only had to replace the rear passenger axle seal. I seem to remember ordering my parts online because of having the D44. So something like this http://www.quadratec.com/products/916534_02.htm.

Alright I got the parts. When do you think you'll have time to get this done? I'll be back on the weekend of the 18th.

Can I get your phone number so I can contact you when I am back in town so we can set up a time to get this done? I'll be in town by this weekend. You can PM it to me if you want. Thanks.

Sorry, been busy. Not sure that I will have time to do it before KOH since I have been working weekends. IIRC the D44 bearing has to be pressed on/off to put the seal on, so it would have to be timed around one of the shops in the area being available to do the pressing.

Ok I won't worry about it until after KOH then.

Hey I'm not trying to rush anything but when do you think you will free to do this? If at all possible, I'd like to get it done before spring break because I'll be traveling over 500 miles, more if there's a wheeling trip during that time. Right now my e-brake is next to useless haha.

By the way, I have no classes Tuesdays and Thursdays, so I'm free all day. Also free on the weekends.

Keep an eye on the weather and maybe this would be a possibility at the end of the week.
