Bad engine noises

Post by Jwlman »

Last time up bobcat my engine developed a pinging wich seems to be comming from cyliner 6. It pings when I am idleing on a hill, or if it is under load.

I have the 4.2. Maybe a messed up rod or vavle?

Any ideas?

pinging or tapping?

pinging is minor rpe-detonation, or knocking. tapping would be a mechanical noise from the valvetrain. the pinging generally sounds like a rattling in the exhaust.

just curious- how are you sure which cylinder it is?
The Rescue Ranger: in pieces and scattered about the yard.

Its pinging. The tapping dosen't happen till I am on the highway lol. I just poked around under the hood for about 10 mintued and the sound seemed to be comming from the rear of the enigne so I assumed it was probably that cylinder

someone suggested that it could be due to carbon built up and to try using seafoam so I guess I will do that this weekend.
