Matt Vest and Will overcame the key issue when they swapped his replacement 4.0 in his TJ.

I think Matt had to go get it reflashed at the dealership. I'm not sure what Will did.

I'll see what else I can find out about it but, a new "older" PCM may be the easiest way. I.e. using the 5.9 PCM, not much else inthe TJ is electric other than then the speedo and hvac. Maybe getting the 5.9 PCM to work with those items may be easier than dealing with the chipped key.

Basically, I do not think the TJ's have much of or any BCM so using a late 5.9 PCM may be your best option that uses a J1850 Bus. IIRC a 2000 and up 5.9

Secondly, I was told that you will not be able to use the TJ PCM to run the 5.9 either.

It's been done and yes you do have to use a 5.9 percent from a ram so all the gauges and such still work. But I can not find anywhere that a 05-06 tj has been done. The electronics are a scoche different and best I can tell the skim is the only thing that's gonna cause real issues. But maybe it'll be easier than I think and I'm just worried too much about it. Damn skim. Too bad you can't just cut the wires and throw it out

Using the PCM from a 5.9 should eliminate the SKIM issues...

Sad day, operation v8 this is now a no go. Spoke with Evan at back woods and was informed it's a royal pain and more expensive to do in the 05-06 tjs due to computer changes. So go go gadget 1 tons

I still don't get it it, you are removing the TJ PCM and using a donor PCM, there should not be a computer problem.

In order to make the rest of the vehicle (dash, trans, etc) he would need to keep the Jeep ECM right? If he used the V8 one he's have to pair down the harness and run aftermarket gauges and whatnot?

As I understand it, the jeep can run off the 5.9 pcm. If its pre 05-06. Unbeknownst to me or a lot of other folks, they made some pretty big changes after the 04 model year. So, it can still be done, but theres a lot more involved, more complicated harnesses. I guess Could still do the swap and just run custom gauges and a carb, but Id like to retain the stock cluster, cruise control and such. Bottom line is its a an easy as fuck swap if its not an 05-06 tj. otherwise its a royal pain. Maybe next year?

And i found a pretty sweet deal on a set of 1 tons and 37's for about 1500 so, i think ill just go that route and regear.

You sittin on 33s right now, right?? Goin to 37s is a big step :thumby:

Also, I think you'll need to chop some if you wanna have some breathing room for 37s with a 6inch long arm. Otherwise I feel like it'll be tight

If I recall correctly from my TJ days, 6" was on the high end for 35s. I think the minimum is something like 4" for 35s, so with 6" he should be fine. I could be wrong though.
