Well I refilled it with clean ATF. I thought if I babied it enough I could make it home. I texted my dad and told him everything that was happening but he read the messages after it already grenaded. I figured sense I didn't see any chunks that it would make it a little further.BadAssEddie wrote:So you pulled into a parking lot, drained the fluid, then proceeded to get back on the freeway???

Yes I got a used driveshaft off of ebay and sanded off the rust and repainted it. It was straight and dent free. Now not so much probably...NJKURPat wrote:Did you pull or replace that bent drive shaft?

I thought you replaced it, but wanted to double check.

Re: Patches The Yellow Turd
Haven't posted in a while so I just wanted to update. After diagnosing the problems I'm pretty sure my transmission isn't internally damaged it was just in limp mode and the rear axle was making all the grinding. When I was at tech my dad took it to the shop to look at it because we still thought it was the transmission. When we found that the trans was fine and it was the rear end my dad took it to a different shop. Keep in mind that my rear axle is a piece of shit. When I heard they were going to charge $1,600 to rebuild a rear end worth $200 I said F that and trailered my truck home that day. After talking to my dad I somehow convinced him to sponsor a won ton swap for my truck. Its still cheaper than rebuilding my POS and it will be a lot stronger. After selling my front and rear end I should make back most of my money. I had found a dana 70 rear and a dana 60 front for 850 but te guy never replied so I ended up buying a dana 70 individually for $300. Its covered in surface rust but I have gotten it mostly cleaned up by now. The drum brakes on it were shot but I didn't care that much because I'm going to put disk brakes on it anyways.
After ripping out my Chrysler 9.25 rear axle I examined it more and it turns out (to the best of my knowledge) that the gears were fine and it just needed new seals and bearings. I decided to try to rebuild it in the mean time so I would have a vehicle while i come up with all the parts I need for the ton swap. I figure I could sell the rear after I do the swap and make a little more money sinse its "rebuild." It turns out i have no idea what I'm doing but with the help I'm pretty sure I got it pretty close, I think I need to adjust the backlash because there is some howling when I am coasting. The sad thing is, is that I finished at 3am on Sunday night thinking I could drive back to tech, but no, my mechanical ability let me down again so in the mean time I'm still cruising in the mom mobile. I will hopefully have the won ton swap done during Christmas break.
Ill post the pictures of my short comings later.

Re: Patches The Yellow Turd
Basically just use your imagine a rusty ass axle with locced up brakes. Piccs at bottom.
The pinion seal on the Chrysler 9.25 was shot and there was no fluid in the housing except for the metallic paste that coated everything.
The Dana 70 Internals are good just needs a new pinion seal and brakes. I was planning on doing disk brakes anyways so its not really that bif of an issue but is still kinda annoying since they guy said they were new. Should have jew'd him down even more for this hunk-o-junk
The pads were welded to the hubs with rust so i had to cut them out with a plasma cutter.
When i pulled off the hub I found a wasp nest inside too, it had been sitting for a while.
I'm getting it cleaned up and its not that bad, just some surface rust. Apparently the guy thought they were 4.10 gears but it turns out that they are 3.55's, it doesn't really matter because I was going to re-gear it to match the 5.13's that will be in the front dana 60.
Really struggling to find the pictures. Will revise post when I find the folder.

Any reason you didn't take those backing plates off? What disk brake swap are you planning on?

Need a front 60? Already geared with nice shafts. Just needs a locker. Alec said you were looking for one.

I didn't take them off because it was around 2am and I didn't want to piss off my neighbors anymore with the impact. And for the disk brakes I haven't really looked into the different brands yet. If you all have any suggestions to what i should get fire away!!BadAssEddie wrote:Any reason you didn't take those backing plates off? What disk brake swap are you planning on?

chevy 3/4 ton front brakes!!!! calipers are like $18, rotors are like $30 I think (cant remember exactly) and you can buy weld on mounting brackets from a lot of offroad shops for around $30, (http://www.barnes4wd.com/275-Axle-Weld- ... _p_47.html) just have to find a set that matches you tube diameter.

Re: Patches The Yellow Turd
I haven't posted in a while about Patches but not much has been done. Long story short my dad wanted me to fix up my old Chrysler 9.25 without any of the proper tools or shims. Don't have to know much to know that wouldn't work meanwhile I had a Dana 70 still just laying around and my dad finally allowed me to put it in my truck after about 3 weeks of failing to get my other rear to work.
The Dana had lots of rust on it and needed a good cleaning so that's what I did for the next few days was just grind off rust and crap. After it was all cleaned up and painted it actually looked pretty good.
The drain plug for the diff cover had rust in the inside so when I tried turning it to get it out it stripped the inside, so I ended up just welding a bar to the inside and got it out with some vise grips.
[
There was a lot of rust on the cover so I had to do a lot of grinding on the already thin cover. I don't really feel like buying an after market one and i had a lot of 3/16 plate laying around so i just decided to weld on some armor on the top. The round part the houses the ring gear i welded the plates at an angle to help deflect rocks if I ever decided to madly back up into anything hard and pointy.
I decided to only armor up the lower half because if the top of the cover got punctured id have to be doing something very very wrong.
I also decided to add some gay artistic additions to it to add some bling. I Painted the whole thing with enamel paint and then sanded off some spots to bare metal and then painted the whole thing in a few coats of clear bedliner. I thought I had better pictures but this will have to do for now.
I finally got some studs that actually fit this axle sense for some reason normal Dana 70 studs wont fit. I threw on the brake drums just to get the tires on there to help me get it under the truck. The wheels were aluminum and actually off a GMC but after some polishing and paint they'll look pretty good. I bought the wheels and 33x12.50 17r tires for $400 and the tires have about 2/3 life left in them. The front set were scalloped from bad alignment but they will just be my back two. Still over all pretty good deal.
Since the old drive shaft wouldn't work with the new axle I didn't even bother to unbolt it.
I tried to get a driveshaft off of summit racing for around $250 but they were surprisingly hard to work with. I sent in my order and was suppose to hear back within 24 hours but didnt hear back from them until after my second email about the order 4 days later. Apparently their site was having some problems in receiving custom orders. But at this point it was too late and it wouldnt be ready by the time I returned to Tech so I decided to just buy from a drivline shop. I browsed around a little bit but VA drivline was the best price and the closest. They were also very willing to work with me when I mentioned I was in sinking creek. The owner even gave me his cell number to text or hall him if i had any more questions about gearing or anything else. I rdered my driveshaft and the very next day after my yolk was shipped there they had the driveshaft done by 2pm the next day painted and ready for me to pick up. Overall with a discount they gave me for being in sinking creek and also supplying my own yolk the driveshaft was only $300 all said and done.
They also gave my piles and piles of stickers and said if i ever needed work done the labor would be $100 off for anyone in sinking creek. They are also having good deals on gears so I'll probably be going there for the 5.13's I want to get. Its easy to say that these guys really appreciate our business, and for only $50 extra and a lot less frustration I will defiantly go back next time. When I get the front axle i think ill shorten it myself because if it isn't balanced it wont matter as much because it wont be spinning when Im going over 25mph so balance isn't as big of a deal. (lol little did I know...)
Basically just imaging a pile of rust getting ground off the axle to make it look actually worth while, then imagine me booger welding on brake brakes and running lines to them and hoping for the best. The diff cover was basically the same deal, more getto body armor made out of other rusty metal.
