But I think the 4.0 has a much higher redline
and another vote for 513 ...
and x2 on the jeep 6cyl not minding high RPMs for extended periods ... hell, they even like to be bounced off the rev limiter once a week

x3 on the 6cyl not minding the high RPM's for extended periods ... i get my best mpg running around 3000 and the engine seems less effected by inclines in the road.affende wrote:

I would go with at least 5.13's. That is what I am running in my TJ with the 2.5L. With the 5-spd and 35" MT's I would run around 3k rpm at 70 mph in 5th gear. Now that I have the 36" TSL's I turn about 3k at 65mph in 4th gear. 5th gear is pretty much useless again. I just need to find the time and money for the V8 swap.

they ping a little in the higher RPM range ... but if it blows up, it just means you were driving correctlyJwlman wrote:
Mine would mind more then yours. The 4.2 is a whole different story
I am pretty sure I will go with 5.13s. I can go 70 mph while spinning 2576 rpms and thats about as fast as I need to go.
If you are wondering how I figrue this stuff out, here is a great site

I wouldn't trust the speed portion too much james. On my way down here I got that ticket for goin 80, and I was turning 3000, the chart says at 3000 I'd be doing 91

edit: that button dosen't seem to make a difference so I don't think it accounts for the slip in your auto tranny

If I were you I'd stick with a higher axle ratio and gear down the t-case, or even a tranny swap for a low first gear. It sounds like you don't drive on the highway a lot, but for the times you do it'd be nice to cruise at a more reasonable RPM. Plus, you'll probably get a lower overall crawl ratio if you go with t-case gears or a lower first gear.

Hmm, stock it should run at 2000ish at 70 mph. With the 5.13 it would be 500 above that. Kinda a big jumpVerticalTRX wrote:54.31, stock
