NEEDED: spark plugs and wires for 22R

Post by maybs »

In order to test out the drivetrain, I need to get the engine running. Looks like it is just missing the battery, spark plugs, and plug wires. Does anyone have an old set of plugs and wires I could borrow? I don't really want to buy new ones since I'm not planning on using the engine. I could return them later.

When did you need them by? I could get you a set after break.

Well while those are out and your waiting on parts, see if you can turn the motor over. Put a big ass wrench on the crank and make sure its not frozen. Also get a flashlight and look into the plug holes to see if there is any visible particulates in the cylinder. If there is just turn it over with the battery and it will hopefully push that out.

Thanks Matt. Go ahead and bring them down. I'll let you know if I end up finding some before then.

Leach, thanks for the tip. I turned the engine over by hand (still no battery in it) and it turned over easilly. I didn't get a chance to inspect inside the cylinders. I think I'm gonna have to push the thing into the garage unless it warms up a bit outside. I want to drain the gas tank since it has been sitting open with no filler tube for a while.. and if there's any water in it, it is currently frozen.

Scott I have wires, distributor, rotor, and possibly plugs if that will also help out. I also have an manual for the firing order. Just let me know.

Alright, thanks Adam! If you don't have plugs I'll probably just go ahead and pick up a set... 8 bucks ain't much for getting to go ahead and get things going. I'll probably not need the distributor and rotor, but good to know they are available if I do. Could I swing by your place this evening and pick them up? If so, what time? I'm curious to see what you've done on your truck this weekend... I wanted to swing by but you know how it goes.

Thanks for providing the wires, Adam. Unfortunately, two of them are missing the connectors inside the boot. I picked up a set of plugs on the way home. I am still in need of two plug wires.

Ok, I took Cody's advice even though I was wanting to avoid pulling parts off of a running vehicle. I was borrowing the battery anyway so what the hell. Anyways... the end result it that with new plugs, mismatched plug wires, and a pair of vise grips holding the positive lead on the battery... the thing started up easier than the sami even though it had been sitting dry for over a year. It idles a little high, but I took it for a crawl around the yard and everything seems fine. I didn't shift out of 1st gear, for fear that I would jar the back end off. Maybe when there's daylight I'll take it around the neighborhood and go through the gears.

Matt, if your plug wires are usable and you wanna get rid of em for a few bucks, bring em on down. I'd like to have the engine complete with no borrowed parts. But, if you were just going to let me borrow them for a bit, I won't need them. Thanks!
