You might want to have a couple of drain holes to allow chasing mud and sluchk out. I havn't done this yet but it is on the list.

ya, the guy have me a roller fairlead to use, but ill eventually switch to 3/8" poly line and a hawse fairlead like yours

Well, I was figuring steel cable would slide well against the edge of 1/4" plate, and since the plate is mild steel, the cable will smooth it out and it will be like a billet aluminum fairlead.
