Swapping rearends in my '86 K5

Post by chvyfan »

This sunday and monday I'm going to be in Pembroke (friends place) workin to get my truck back on the road. Good while ago rearend went kaboom on 460. I have the truck on various jacks/cinder blocks lookin real redneck 'cause the tow truck just dumped it into the dirt. I have another rear I plan on using to swap or canabalize, Also a Dana 60 Rear I bought previously for long range plans before all this went down. Other than partially dissasembling the diff and picking up bits and peices of metal from the locker I have no experience working on axles and was hoping/wondering if anyone would be able to come out and help me along, 'cause I'm gonna be just figuring shit out otherwise. Hoping to meet some of the club seeing as how I've been off and on the forum for a yearish?

give me a call at 540-607-1119. If I don't answer, i'm probably at work

Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks

There is really nothing hard about it just unbolt one and bolt the other in its place..The hard part is wrestling them in and out...More and likely you will need a bigger u-joint just on one side Advance Auto will cross reference them!!
