shackle question

Post by Brett »

I removed cracked/broken stock angled blocks from my bronco before the harlan trip. I do not want to put another angle block back. Does anybody have any info on longer shackles for a 3" leaf spring? How much longer do i need to get approximately 1 1/2 inch of lift and/or correct my pinion angle? How would I determine this?

Brett, the ones on my truck are Belltech 6400's. They are usually listed as lowering shackles for a fullsize chevy. They were about 3" longer than my stock ranger shackles, and therefore gave me about 1.5" of lift at the axle.

Found some on summit racing for 3" wide springs and a three inch drop. They are $100 for the pair. Seems kind of steep. What do you think?

that would probably be them. I did not pay that much for mine, but this was back before steel prices went through the roof. It's fairly common practice to take a pair of shackles and weld them together to make one big shackle, or to cut the shackle in the middle and section it out with some plate.

generally u get half the lift of the length of the shackle.

3inch longer = 1.5 lift
6inch longer = 3inch lift

etc.

Those chevy lowering shackles are the same ones I am running but in the 2.5" variety.

That looks like the ticket then. Time to save some money.
