Shortening a tool box: how to

I needed a tool box for the pickup and I didn't want it to take up too much bedspace. The idea I came up with was to take a side mount box for a long bed pickup and cut it down to the proper width. This ended up working out great, except I had to cap the end of the box where I cut it.

The following pics show how I did that.

I still need to cap off the end of the lid, but getting the box itself square and capped off was my biggest concern of whether or not this would work.

Thanks man. The odd thing is that I had been dreading doing this for a long time, and honestly it was the easiest fab work I've done in a long time. Sheetmetal is a lot easier to work with than something like 1/4" plate as far as cutting/grinding/shaping which makes things go easier I think.

Yea I hear that.....but you did do a really clean job on that. How long that take? Paint that thing up and you wont ever know it was cut. :thumby:

Probably 2 hours total? Maybe less.

I'm trying to decide on a paint scheme for the whole truck before I start painting anything. I do need to get some primer on shit though before it all rusts away to nothing.

Have you got a spray gun? I really just need to pick colors and get to it. I think I'll start a thread asking for suggestions.
