Need to hire someone to swap engines

Post by Skyleur »

The motor in my 87 wrangler sounds like it's dying. I have found an 87 cherokee with a fuel injected 4.0 which I'm buying Monday. All I want is the engine out of the cherokee. I need to hire someone to swap the motors. I would like to give the cherokee, it has an automatic transmission, 4 door, a nice new interstate battery, basically everything minus the motor, my old motor, carb, etc, plus cash to someone that can do this. My current motor is knocking and spewing oil and I'm assuming in need of a rebuild. I would rather pay a club member than some random mechanic to do this. If you can help please let me know, however just in case nobody is interested could someone recommend a mechanic in Blacksburg. Thanks

a carb to FI engine swap is a big job ... gonna have to swap harnesses or cut and splice the old one ... gonna have to play around with fuel pumps (electric mounted on the frame would be easiest ... FI uses 1.5-2 x the fuel pressure of carb) .... its not gonna be a cheap thing to do man ....

do your research and make sure you know what you are getting into .... its not gonna be a day thing ....
