22r thatâ€™s been sitting

My dads 84 4runner hasnâ€™t been turned over in at least 4 years if not 5. I was just wondering if there was anything special I should do to the engine (besides changing fluids) before starting it up.

you need to fill the cylinders with water or hydraulic fluid ... and give it hell

yep, and be on the look out for leaks from any rubber seal............anywhere

Drain the gasoline, change the fuel filter if you can. Crank the motor by hand with a large socket on the crank pulley to ensure that the engine is not seized. Other than that, change your fluids and crank it up.

I'd pull out the spark plugs and put a little oil in each cylinder over night. Crank it over with the plugs out the next day, install the plugs and try to start it. This will lube the cylinders and help soften the carbon on the rings up so they don't sieze in the pistons.

i always heard ATF overnight is good for that ... maybe a tablespoon worth in each cylinder ...

it has tons of cleaning agents in it and can really break stuff free ...

X2 on ATF, mech at work swears by it
