So I'm new to this whole pickup thing haha.

Why are some truck boxes like 250-350(TSC brand for example) and then weather guard boxes are like 750-800 for essentially the same box.

I had figured on spending 3-400, but will hold out for a deal on a more expensive box if there is some reason they're worth it.

I had a 200$ delta and it was nowhere near the quality of the UWS brand box I got from Leonard for around 300$. When you would push down on one corner of the box to close it the other side would not latch and you had to walk around the truck to close it. The UWS box closed and latched perfect every time. You also could not stand on top of the delta box but the UWS box held up just fine. The UWS box just looked and felt stronger. I think the delta box was one of the cheaper models they make though.

I puchased a kobalt from lowe's and I can second adam's thoughts on the lid colsing. what a pain! Get a good one.

Weathergaurd is THE best box made period.

If you want a decent box that will last and is not to pricey look into UWS. That is what I have in all my trucks and they are in the 300-400 range.

Any experience with the TSC boxes?

I can't believe this big ass truck only has a 20 gallon tank. Are there options for a reasonably sized box/tank combo unit? I don't want to take up the whole bed, but extra fuel on board would be nice. I almost ran out Wed night in the middle of a snow storm in the middle of no where. doh!

GM short bed trucks hold 26 gallons, long bed 34 gallons. One more reason I would never have a short bed for a tow rig.

That's odd, 'cause when the fuel light came on and then it said "Range 30 miles" and then "Range low" the tank only took 19.5 gallons.

Are you saying I had another 5.5 gallons in reserve?

Pretty much. Did you stop filling when it "clicked" off, or did you try and get more in? The 34/26 gallon tank sizes have been around since the early 90's.

I tried again after it clicked off and it clicked off again immediately.

The fuel gauges in those trucks are very inacurate. They almost have a mind of their own. Mine was reading a 1/4 one time and I ran out of fuel. Thank god i was in my driveway.

Our Chevy Tahoe is like that too, less than a half tank and it won't start on an incline. Aggravates the hell out of me.

Diesel is very frothy, usually you can get alot more in after it "clicks".

I picked up a mangled up Tractor Supply box for free. It had some cracks and was bent up. I figured I could straighten it out and weld up the cracks and have a decent box. Geez, what a royal pain. The old Natural Light cans that the box was made out of makes it impossible to weld. The aluminum is paper thin, filthy even after grinding and acetone bath and the assist shocks are junk. The box is maybe 5 years old.

Definitely worth buying a decent one. If you're worried about price just look around and find yourself a used one.

Yep... takes a little bit for it to foam down so you can squeeze more in. As for truck boxes, I also can vouch for UWS...Laura's truck has one and its great.
