Someone to Do Welding
Hey Guys-
I've been thinking about starting a new project.
Is there anyone that's a member of this board or that someone knows that could weld up a CJ frame for me........
I'm going to cut all the pieces to length and then just need someone to weld them.
Obviously being a frame I want someone who knows what they are doing, and can maintain square.
I think I could have one built for much less than the aftermarket ones cost.
Anyone got suggestions?

i dont know anyone what can weld ... nope, no one at all
give me a call ...
i have certifications in GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, and SMAW for all positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead) on pipe and plate steel.
Qualified for full penetration single and double sided welds for:
infinite thickness plate all position (SMAW, GMAW, FCAW) and up to 3/4" plate all position (GTAW)
and up to 7/8" thick pipe all positions (SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, GTAW)
qualified for Pressure vessels, structural pipe and tubing, piping systems (pressurized and non pressurized) for volatile liquids, gases, and nuclear.
All certifications under American Welding Society (AWS) D1.1, American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) section IX, and American Pipeline Institute (API) 1104.

depends ... what process? SMAW or GTAW?JCook5003 wrote:Well I guess you'd do.![]()
Just as wild ballpark guess what do you think welding something like that up would cost?
for strength, cleanliness, and perfection ... GTAW ... and i do that by the hour.
what material (specifics dont hurt)? how many inches of weld? will it be prepped? will it be cut and ready to weld?
time is the biggest cost ... if its ready to weld ( i.e. mill scale removed, marked for exact welding, cut and prep'd) i figure it would take about 4 hours to weld up with GTAW .... so about $160 ($40 an hour ... which barely covers my costs for materials and consumables).
less time for SMAW, but also less precise, less pretty, and more room for error.
my suggestion is GTAW ... i can weld short sequences to keep distortion to a minimum, and have 100% control over my heat input.
When quality is the most important thing, there is no substitute for GTAW.
if i have to prep it for welding (yes, the grey mill scale needs to be removed 1" back from the weld line), then it will take more time and subsequently more money.
preparation on your part saves you money in the end ... if i have an unforeseen problem and it takes me more time that i though ... im not going to dick you over.
i like my food and cigarette breaks, and no, i wont dick you out of your money for them ... i keep good time of my work and i charge accordingly.
but the $160 is just a ballpark ... figure out the total inches of weld required and i can better judge ...
i distinctly remember someone saying "damn, that's a MRTWSTR weld!" ...Arya Ebrahimi wrote:All those certifications and he still can't fuckin weld
i also distinctly remember someone needing my help to weld on the filler plates for the IFS shit on some toyota that was in WV ....
now if i could jsut remember who said that ....
little bit of both ...ranger under construction wrote:i have certifications for all positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead). Qualified for full penetration single and double sided. infinite thickness pipe all positions. give me a call 423-737-2435
