Winch line Splice

Post by Ctrow »

Has anyone had experience splicing synthetic winch line? I really need to put a full line back on my winch, but I'm having a hard time justifying the cost right now. After looking at some write ups, the whole splicing thing looks like a pain in the a$$. That being said........would anyone like to make a few extra bucks and do it for me

I came across this link a while back http://stu-offroad.com/recovery/trailfix/trailfix-1.htm about splicing synthetic winch line.

Yeah, it's a bit tedious. I can point you in the right direction to have it professionally done, but if it were me... I would pitch it. It wouldn't have broken like it did if it wasn't degraded. I'd be worried it will just break again.

I spliced it on Friday. It's already been tested a bit, and no sign of weakness. The splicing was fairly straightforward, a bit tricky but not too bad.
We'll see how it holds up.
