Build specs:
88? Samurai
vw 1.9L TD
Toy transmission, TC and axles
SOA with Yj springs
Armor all around
Caged
33 inch mud tar on bead locks

We will be using mostly kits to do the upgrades as I am the only one in the family with rig building experience and I won't be able to devote enough time required to custom make a bunch of the stuff. My brother is more into bikes ( you can see a few in his garage) and my Dad is into anything that is interesting, cool, floats, drives or moves. :lol2:

Here is the condition we got it in except we slapped on a new front bumper so that we could flat tow it back to Richmond

In my brothers garage ready for the tear down to begin.

Progress we made during the week between Christmas and new years

No pics but the current status is that we are down to a bare frame. Frame needs to be cleaned and painted and then we are going to start installing the suspension.

Ordered these brackets for the yj spring conversion.

Body is in pretty good shape but has some rust spots underneath that need to be repaired.

Anyone have suggestions on a good rebuild kit for a 85 toy front axle and one for the rear too?

Marlin/Allpro/Trailgear

There has been some complaints about the quality of trunion bearings in the TG kit tho. You should try out the TG truinion bearing eliminator kit.

Definitely get marlins HD front inner axle seals and his rear axle seals. The rest of the stuff is cheaper from trail gear. I haven't had any problems with their bearings.

Body should be back on within the next couple days and then we are going to tow it over to the warehouse so I don't have to keep shuffling tools back and froth between it and my jeep

Mounted up a Toy steering box last weekend. The stock samurai box is located on the inside of the frame rails and further back so we had to cut out a grill mount, and the old steering box mount. Then added a reinforcement plate and cut away some fender and grill to make it all fit
