Tape deck issues

Post by Ctrow »

The tape player in my 1988 Jeep Comanche is acting up. When I insert a tape into the deck, it continuously switches back and forth from side 1 to 2. Any thoughts on what the issue might be or how it could be fixed?

The tape deck isn't sensing both cassette drives turning. I've had problems with that before. Make sure the tape is wound tight on the reels and try it again. :thumby:

took the tape from my F250 straight to the jeep, Worked in the 250, not the jeep. My Ipod adapter wont work either. Think it might still be the tape reels?

Well, that's what causes the skipping back and forth is the deck not seeing movement on both sides of the tape. Thinks the tape has come to the end and needs to be reversed. May be that it's not picking up the movement of the reel. May need to just bite the bullet and stick in a CD player with IPOD input.

This thread is a joke right?

Never mind the fact that you still use cassette tapes, but you would take the time to fix it?

Have you tried an actual tape? I'd be curious if it will play a normal tape.

Ya, does the same thing. Might have to put a cd player in it, but i like the stock look of the interior. The powerstroke is nice because it has tape and cd. I can listen to my books on tape, and use a tape adapter instead of those shit radio transmitters for the Ipod. I hardly every play cds these days. I assume the library has books on cds these days. Got a box of audio books from my dad that are all on tape......that's what sparked all of this.

P.S. I hate you all. :flipoff2:.....I'm going to buy an aftermarket tape player....

At least your powerjoke has a tape player, I would trade my 6-disc changer for an aux input in a heart beat.

If it's a two-post, Dual makes a tape deck that will work. Even has an aux input on the front.
