I am thinking about shortening the long side on a Chevy D44 I have.
Has anyone here ever tried doing this?

I took the plunge and started this job.
First I had to grind out the weld that holds the inner "C" in place.
Than I had to knock the "C" off.
I have to shorten the tube approximately 3" to match the long side axle from the '77 Waggy.
Should get the width to approximately 64.5", I will have to put some spacers on the
rear axle to widen it up to match.
Took about 1 hr. which also included cutting off the spring perch and shock mount.

Nice. I've always heard getting inner C's off sucks. Doesn't seem like it was that bad.

Not too bad at all when you have an 8 lb sledge to knock it off.
