wanted: winch 8000lb+

lookin for a winch soon to design with my front bumper. has to be strong enough to yank the dodge whenever i need to so im thinking 8000lb or more. dont really care about the brand, but something that wont break the first time i use it. lemme know what ya got, if anything. thanks guys and gals

FYI, www.northerntool.com has the Ramsey REP 8.5E for $399.

Its nothing fancy and its slow as fawk, but it will get the job done. I'm going to put one of these on the '79 in the near future.

8000lb should be enough? or try to go more? i can get a milemarker 8000lb for 350 bucks. whats that winch you have on your jeep caleb?

Rule of thumb for winches Ive read is 1.5 times your vehicle weight. Say your dodge weight 6000lbs, a 9000lb winch is the lowest you should go. But why cut it close? You probably weight in the 5k range, but just save up and get a real big winch. Yea you could snatch block it, but a couple hundred more dollars on a heavier pull winch and you'll be much happier.

Well I would not buy that damn winch. If you are interested in it you should find out what the warrenty is on the winch, and do some searching and see if other people have used them. Also the winch line size is 9/25?? and the speed is 7ft per minute under load.

Save up your money, wait till you can afford a nice Warn or Ramsey (milemarker gets ok ratings on electric powered, thier hydralics get good raves). Personally I will be getting a warn winch but it will be awhile before I can afford it. But I know the company has good customer service and they are huge, always have parts and not some cheap ebay winch.

If ya wanna save money buy a used Warn.

go 9K at the least, 10K if you have some extra cash, and 12K if you have moeny burning a hole in your pocket.

your winch can never be too big.

I don't know... if you have the winch just for that seldom fawk-up, the cheapo's will do okay. no need to get a warn and only use it once a year.

i recall some threads someplace about a winch sold at cosco, as well as the harbor freight winches. if i remember correctly, the harbor freight winches seemed to share components with the ramsey's, and the cosco winches had good reviews considering their cost.

I got a 9000lb ramsey, it does the trick

I'm personally leary of the MM8000, I've seen two burn up right in front of me, one was brand new. Something about how its a permanent wound motor, I dunno, I don't know electrical stuff.
