Painting Rims (easy and cheap for under $40)

Post by Dovi82 »

So i liked the rims of my jeep but not the color, so instead of paying for new whole rims I decided to paint them. All the stuff can be found at AutoZone

Things you will need:

-Sandpaper extra fine (180 grit) or better x2
-Degreaser (not really needed but suggested) x1
-micro towels x2
-Spray Paint of your color if AutoZone doesn't have your color then go to any paint store x3
-Spray Paint, final coat, (clear AND glossy) x2

Steps to paint:

-Sand down all the wheels to even out all scratches and kinks, unless they are new (it will scrape the wheels up but make them smooth)
-Use the degreaser on the wheels and wash off all excess grease and remnants of the sand paper
-Use the spray paint to put on at LEAST 3 coats on each wheel, every 20 minutes (MAKE SURE NOT TO LET THE PAINT RUN)
-After the last coat let sit for an hour
-Apply clear protective coat at LEAST 2 coats or until you run out
-Wait an hour before putting the tires back on the vehicle

How to:

-Put the vehicle on stands to do all 5 at once
-Paint nuts separately and let them dry before you put them back on

Notes:
-IF THE PAINT IS NOT BLACK MAKE SURE YOU COVER YOUR TIME SO IT DOESNT LOOK WEIRD
-The paint will scratch easy until you put on protective coat so don't be alarmed if it scratches easy
-Make sure to allow adequate time to dry before putting them back on to avoid the scraping of dry paint
