Adopt-A-Highway - Community Service - APPROVED!!

Post by Collison »

Ladies and Gentlemen of Sinking Creek,

I do hereby propose that we as a club shall participate in the Adopt-A-Highway program. This gives us the opportunity to give back to the area and help mother nature out a little bit too. I will act as the contact person with VDOT and going forward after this year it will remain a responsibility of the Vice-President.

So here are some details;
We have to agree to pick up litter at least twice a year for three years. In return, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) provides trash bags, vests, important safety information and highway signs that recognize us. The signs will be erected after two pickups occur and are documented.

If you want more details, http://www.virginiadot.org/programs/prog-aah-terms.asp

SO, now we need to find a road to adopt. Unfortunately the office people don't simply have a list of available roads, we have to drive around and look for roads that do not have signs already. If you have a road in mind that does not have a sign post it up here. The catch is that the lady needs details of the road, i.e. not just "460" but something like "the section of 460 west of where Prices Fork crosses it".

I also propose that we do 2 pickups this semester so we can get that sign up by spring!

Got bored today, so I decided to take a drive around. Everything on 460 west of prices fork to New Zion Rd(Near Eastern Elementary Rd) is claimed, idk bout anything else west of that.
I went down to Sinking Creek Rd., and it looks like no one has claimed it, so that would be cool if its adoptable.

The first section of Blue Grass Trail at the intersection of 460 is also claimed. This is part of the way up to Potts. Idk is the rest of that rd is claimed, but that might be a good candidate for us to adopt if there is an opening.

Mtn lake rd didnt have any signs that said it was claimed, so that might be another candidate..

I havent checked it out yet but blacksburg rd going to The Home Place would be another nice rd to adopt.
