First off, unless its been swapped in its got a 351M not a 351W. If you put new plugs/wires on and wired it to 351W firing order thats your problem. I would first check your firing order, then check the duraspark ignition system to make sure its working (they are pieces of crap, I don't have any advice on how to fix one, I ripped the whole system out of my truck and went HEI first chance I got.) Once you are sure you have fire, pour a little fuel in the carb and see if it starts, If it does and runs for a second or two then your trouble is in either the carb or fuel system. Try these things and report back.

interestingly enough, the only mod i suggested and didn't have to argue about....... funny......

ne ways! yeah, the modified.... easiest way to tell if its the timing chain and all is to pull the distributor cap off and watch to see the rotor button move when the motor is cranked or to pull a valve cover and crank the motor to see if the rockers move, if you're like everyone else w/ an m motor, you'll probably have to shovel the sut and ash outta the covers to see the rockers.....but i digress, everyone blames the timing set first....amazing.....

Neckbrace forgot to add...It's getting spark, and backfiring. So, it's getting spark and fuel. Just not in a timely manner...

Another vote for a timing/ignition issue here...
I feel like a hundred bucks...

how many valve cover bolts, a 351m has 7 and a 351w has 6.....also, is the thermostat housing sticking off the front of the engine, or is it bolted level?
