Inspection in Blacksburg/Christiansburg area?
Hey, all!
Is there an 'offroader-friendly' place to get an inspection in Blacksburg or Christiansburg (Radford works too)? Auto Repair Specialists in Blacksburg just failed me for not having a sway bar, and last year I cut the tabs that the links would mount to so I can't toss one in.
Thanks!

Re: Good auto shops around Blacksburg?
Thanks, but we're good! Granted, it's not an ideal towing situation, but we did make it from Staunton to Blacksburg along 11 without incident

Re: Good auto shops around Blacksburg?
Thanks for the input! Any movement from Blacksburg to a shop is going to be Jeep-towing-Jeep action, so you are right that it might be a stretch.

Re: Good auto shops around Blacksburg?
Not as of yet - no headway made this weekend, as I was out of town.

Re: Good auto shops around Blacksburg?
As far as I know, I do have sufficient spark and fuel. Whether or not the injectors are supplying the fuel properly is rather suspect. I do have proper pressure at the rail, but the engine just turns over and will not fire.

Re: Good auto shops around Blacksburg?
CPS is fine. Which fuse?
Fuel pressure is fine.
Little more background - I was driving on I-81 when it happened. Was trying to accelerate up a hill, engine started to hiccough, then vehicle lost all power. No life from it since then.

Re: Good auto shops around Blacksburg?
Fuel pump is fine. I don't know how much fuel to expect from the injectors, but they seem to put out a little fuel and then stop. Computer issue?

Re: Good auto shops around Blacksburg?
Engine won't fire. Turns over fine, coil and plugs spark normally, and it will run as long as there is starting fluid to burn. It just doesn't seem to be getting the fuel it needs.

Good auto shops around Blacksburg?
My XJ needs some work done (in the realm of 'pretty much stopped working entirely'). Which shops in or around Blacksburg would you guys recommend towing to?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: 96 XJ - Will not start :c
The temp gauge was elevated a couple of degrees thanks to driving on the highway, but it was definitely not abnormal. I will look into grabbing a computer to see if it has anything to say.

Re: 96 XJ - Will not start :c
Just dropped by Advance. They apparently don't rent out testers for either compression or fuel pressure. Also, I had a question about Matt's suggestion that it could be a compression issue. If the loss of compression was catastrophic enough that the engine completely choked, shouldn't there have not...

Re: 96 XJ - Will not start :c
Thanks for the fast reply! I replaced the plugs on the side of the road and did not have the time to make sure that they were all spaced correctly, but they were all sparking. A blown gasket (which should be verified by the compression test, right?) would probably explain the symptoms better than an...
