Re: Bilstein 4600 bushings...crap
Sawzall or hacksaw, cut two slots about 180deg apart just through the sleeve. You can deform it with a chisel and knock it out but it takes a lot of force.

Re: hydro assist
PSC box and pump. Ideally the stroke of the ram will be fully extended at one steering stop and fully compressed at the other. Bad things will happen if the stroke is longer.

Re: hydro assist
Not an issue, lots of people tapping the stock box, same ports controlling the box's and ram's assist. The cylinder diameter depends on what kind of driving you want to do. A larger diameter will be slower to react but provide more force. On/off road I'd look into 1.5 to 1.75". Off road only 1....

Re: Clutch Issues, Hard Shifting
The "door" for the reverse gear is the reverse lockout solenoid. Look to see that it is not unplugged.
Did you run through any deep water crossings? If so, I'd start simple and change the tranny fluid.
Is the tranny hard to shift with the motor off?

I've got a pair of XJ springs laying around. Also have a BTF cross member to relocate the rear spring hangers, if you're interested.
